This role is an Escalator Service Technician covering South Wales. It is a full‑time, permanent position that requires carrying out planned preventive maintenance regimes, performing safety inspections, closing non‑conformities, improving equipment condition, minor repairs and component replacements, and providing on‑call coverage.

Your main responsibilities

Carry out routine servicing of escalator equipment, including minor repair work and routine replacement of components, in accordance with approved company procedures (PPE, PDA 2 etc.).

Rectify and reduce faults on escalator equipment in cases of breakdown, and check to confirm correct functioning.

Perform checks to include speed motor start/stop, noise, temperature and power supply using approved company issued tooling and protective equipment.

Carry out the routine inspection and adjustment of escalator installations in accordance with approved procedures, reinstate escalator and complete service documentation.

Carry out fault finding and diagnostic procedures using a range of techniques, technical manuals and appropriate test equipment, restoring equipment to service.

Use written or graphical information effectively.

Work in accordance with the Company Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies and Schindler Core Values to ensure compliance with current UK legal requirements and Schindler Group Safety requirements.

Attend all relevant training sessions.

Follow the Company’s Quality Corporate Policy for all work.

Contribute to the Company’s Safety Objectives by maintaining/monitoring current safety systems and implementing agreed changes to the Safety Management System.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in escalator servicing/maintenance/repairs preferred.
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 minimum in escalator maintenance.
  • Passionate about the customer and consistently provides a high level of service to both internal and external customers.
  • Works well as part of a team, supporting colleagues and assisting willingly when required.
  • Proactive and able to identify and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to forward‑plan departmental requirements and work to deadlines.
  • Good problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills at different levels (client, service leader, inspectors).
  • Full UK driving licence (walking routes may not need this qualification).
