Our Emergency Duty Team is at the forefront of providing urgent social care support to individuals and families in crisis. The Emergency Duty Team provides an out-of-hours service, responding to emergencies and other social work matters that cannot be safely left until the following working day.
Our EDT service is a regional partnership arrangement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, hosted and managed by Cardiff Council to all citizens across the two local authority areas working collaboratively with partner agencies and other emergency services.

About the jobAs an EDT Principal Social Worker, you will have a commitment to safeguarding and upholding the rights of children, young people and adults and working in a strength-based, preventative way. In a rewarding, diverse but complex environment, you will deal with a range of cases from child protection to mental health act assessments, and decisions that need to be made in the context of each individual case to achieve optimum outcomes.
You will be committed to working in a way that promotes equality and inclusion for all our citizens and work closely with other agencies such as the Police and Health professionals.

What we offer:
Competitive salary including a Market Supplement, AMHP allowance were applicable, and night allowance, weekend and shift allowances for unsocial hours worked.
The contractual hours will be 18.5 hours per week, working as part of a rolling rota which attracts additional payments of shift allowance, weekend work allowance and night allowance for working unsocial hours.
This role currently attracts a market supplement of £3,000 (full time equivalent), reviewed annually.
An AMHP allowance of £2800 (pro rata) will also be paid to suitably qualified candidates.

What We Are Looking For From YouQualifications: A degree in Social Work or an equivalent Social Work qualification and registration with Social Care Wales are essential. Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status is desirable; where applicants do not currently hold the AMHP qualification, there will be an opportunity to be supported onto the AMHP training programme. An additional allowance is paid to employees who are qualified AMHPs.
Experience: We are looking for qualified Social Workers with experience of safeguarding in both adults and children. You will have experience of assessment of risk and complex needs of vulnerable adults and children and be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies.
Expertise: Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and be committed to your ongoing professional development. You will possess excellent assessment and analytical skills and able to make sound risk assessments and decisions in a crisis.
