About the jobThe Psychology‑Led Practitioner in the Parents Plus Service has a role in applying psychology to inform personalised pieces of work with parents and carers and their babies and children across Cardiff.
The practitioner will prepare for pieces of work through allocation discussions with their Senior Psychology‑Led Practitioner, making an initial phone call to parents before conducting a joint home or community setting visit with a psychologist. Personalised targets for change are co‑constructed with the parent during this initial visit and the tailored piece of work is formulated by the Psychology‑Led Practitioner and the Educational Psychologist after the visit.
The Psychology‑Led Practitioner carries out the intervention in the family home or community setting with regular supervision from the EP.
The main role includes:
- Delivering bespoke psychology‑informed parent‑infant interventions under the clinical supervision of psychologists.
- Nurturing and supporting early parent‑child interactions and relationships, in order to promote the optimal development, learning, behaviour and well‑being of babies and young children.
- Record keeping and report writing.
- Participating in professional development and staff training opportunities.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of service delivery.
You will be supported with ongoing professional development opportunities and will be provided with a telephone, personal computer and the resources and support required to feel confident and safe in your role.
What We Are Looking For From YouWe are looking for an enthusiastic practitioner committed to developing their practice, who:
- Is a suitably qualified practitioner, with good knowledge of the developmental, relational and behavioural needs of young children.
- Has an awareness of different approaches to parenting and how these support the development of babies and young children in families.
- Is open‑minded and keen to gain experience of working alongside psychologists to promote applied psychology.
- Has good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Has a positive and motivated attitude and shows a commitment to providing a fair and inclusive service.
- Can be flexible with working hours, and is able to travel. This is essential.
We welcome applications from practitioners early in their career or from experienced practitioners who may be looking for a new professional role or secondment. Some flexibility will be required in order to meet the needs of working families. This role is part‑time to 0.8 with flexibility in the working pattern to fulfil those hours.
