Position: HOMELESS ASSESSMENT OFFICER

The Housing Options Service provides advice and assistance to those who are homeless or facing homelessness in the City.

About the job

The post is part of the Frontline Team, and the post holder will carry out legal assessments and provide advice and assistance to clients who present to the Service as either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, in discharge of the Council’s corporate duty.

Homeless Assessment Officers undertake homeless assessments and make legal decisions of the duties owed to clients presenting to the service. The key objective will be to prevent homelessness, and the post holders will be required to produce innovative solutions to help clients either to remain in their homes, or to help them find alternative accommodation.

What We Are Looking For From You

The post holder will have the ability to work under pressure in a busy environment. The post holder will have excellent team working skills, the ability to prioritise workloads and be able to work in a person‑centred, holistic way.

The post holder will need to have the skills to interpret and apply homeless legislation, team‑working skills, the ability to produce innovative solutions and be forward thinking to help develop the service. The post holder will be required to provide excellent outcomes for vulnerable clients, and high quality customer service.

Experience of homeless legislation assessments and working with the public will be an advantage.

Additional information

This post is temporary until 31/03/2027.

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
