Job Description Family Support Worker – Interventions Hub – 3 Month Contract

Location: Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff

Contract: Temporary (3 Months)

Hours: Full-Time

Working Pattern: Hybrid Working – 2 to 3 Days Office Based

Summary

The Family Support Worker role within the Interventions Hub is a temporary 3-month position focused on supporting children, young people, and families through early intervention and preventative services. The role is crucial in strengthening parenting capacity, improving outcomes for children, and preventing the need for higher-level statutory services. The successful candidate will deliver targeted support and interventions to promote health, wellbeing, development, and resilience, enabling families to achieve sustainable positive change.

Responsibilities

Family Support
  • Deliver direct support and interventions to children, young people, and families.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with families.
  • Support parents to develop skills, confidence, and parenting capacity.
  • Promote positive family relationships and reduce the risk of family breakdown.
Early Intervention & Prevention
  • Provide support at the earliest opportunity to prevent escalation of need.
  • Work with families to identify strengths and areas for development.
  • Deliver outcome-focused interventions designed to improve family functioning.
  • Support children and young people to achieve better outcomes.
  • Promote children's health, development, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support parents in understanding and responding to their children's needs.
  • Encourage positive routines and healthy development.
  • Help families access appropriate community services and support networks.
Assessment & Planning
  • Contribute to assessments of need and risk.
  • Develop support plans and intervention programmes.
  • Monitor, review, and record progress against agreed outcomes.
  • Identify emerging concerns and elevate where appropriate.
Partnership Working
  • Collaborate with social workers, schools, health professionals, early help services, community organisations, and voluntary sector partners.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings as required.
  • Contribute to integrated plans and coordinated support arrangements.
Safeguarding
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Share information appropriately with relevant professionals and agencies.
  • Support children to remain safe and protected from harm.
Record Keeping
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records.
  • Complete reports, assessments, and intervention records.
  • Use electronic systems and databases effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and data protection requirements.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS is essential.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families.
  • Experience delivering family support, early intervention, or preventative services.
  • Ability to work directly with families to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and sole use of a vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous Local Authority experience.
  • Experience with in Early Help, Family Support, Children's Services, or Youth Services.
  • Knowledge of child development and parenting interventions.
  • Experience working with vulnerable families and complex needs.
  • Hybrid working arrangement.
  • Based at Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff.
  • 2–3 days office-based with community and family visits as required.
  • Fast-paced early intervention and family support environment.
  • Regular travel across the local area to support families.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Relevant qualification in Family Support, Childcare, Youth Work, Education, Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience.
  • Early Help or Family Support qualification.
  • Safeguarding training.
  • Parenting programme or child development training.
