Software Engineer Backend

Position Overview

Position:
Staff Software Engineer (Customer Facing Tools).

Location:

Cardiff, UK. Hybrid:
Two remote days per week.

• Develop and maintain enterprise‑scale device management solution for physical access devices (RFID, Biometric readers).
• Integrate with complex software packages and cloud services.
• Write secure software and perform unit, integration and build tests.
• Develop integrations to devices using protocols such as MQTT, Serial, Bluetooth, NFC, UDP, TCP/IP.
• Build REST APIs and Web Socket communication; optionally use gRPC.
• Collaborate across multinational teams and communicate in English.
• Self‑learn industry trends and best practices.

• 7+ years professional software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
• Experience with relational database design, Hibernate ORM.
• Experience in developing networked applications.
• Knowledge of secure software development lifecycle.
• Desirable:
  Python programming, cryptographic algorithms, RFID technology (e.g., NXP Mifare Desfire).
• Experience writing integrations over MQTT, Serial, Bluetooth, NFC, UDP, TCP/IP.
• Experience building REST APIs, Web Socket, gRPC.

Compliance with HID Global policies on quality, security, safety, business continuity and environmental systems. International travel may be required; possession of a valid passport. Must be legally eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
