As a key contributor to the Customer Facing Tools team, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our enterprise-scale device management solution. This role involves designing, developing, and supporting backend applications using Java, with a focus on enhancing and maintaining LINQ on-premises solutions. You will work on a variety of system integrations, connecting software platforms with access control readers and devices while ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable performance across diverse customer environments.

Candidates should possess strong commercial experience in Java development, with the ability to design, build, troubleshoot, and optimise backend services and integration solutions. We are looking for someone with an open mindset who is adaptable, quality-focused, and comfortable working across different projects. As part of a multinational team, strong written and verbal English communication skills are essential.

• You will be part of our Customer Facing Tools team under the PACS (Physical Access Control Systems) business area, the PACS products include smart cards, mobile access and identifications, software, services and controllers for physical access control.
• You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of an enterprise scale software solution for the management of physical access devices such as RFID and Biometric readers. This will involve integrating with complex software packages and cloud services.
• You are aware of and continue to self-learn industry best practices & trends.
• You should be self-reliant and resourceful, able to solve problems independently.
• Being that your work will be multinational; communicative English in speaking and writing is required.
• This hybrid opportunity is based in Cardiff. Our current hybrid working model allows 2 remote days per week.

• 7+ years’ experience in professional Software Development.
• You should be able to work with minimal supervision.
• You should be self-reliant and resourceful, able to solve problems independently.
• Possess a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (engineering, computer science) or demonstrative equivalent experience.
• Relational database design.
• Unit testing, and Integration testing.
• Experience in developing networked applications would be desirable.
• Experience in writing integrations to devices over any of the following would also be desirable. (MQTT, Serial, Bluetooth, NFC, UDP, TCP/IP).
• Experience in building REST APIs and Web Socket communication would also be desirable.
• Experience in the use of gRPC would be desirable.
• Experience in the use of Hibernate ORM would be desirable.
• Experience in Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDL) would be desirable.

• Experience of writing software applications in Python would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and security certification would be a plus.
• Previous experience with RFID technologies / smart cards e.g. NXP Mifare Desfire would be desirable.
