Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education with major coursework in curriculum, educational supervision, and/or educational administration.
  • Hold or be eligible for State of Maine Certification– Curriculum Coordinator (078) required, and prefer Assistant Superintendent (015).
  • Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Minimum of two years of successful administrative experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Maine’s Learning Results.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • The School Committee reserves the right to consider alternative qualifications that demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, or experience.
Reports To

Superintendent of Schools

Supervises

Teacher Leaders, Department Heads, and other staff as designated by the Superintendent.

Job Goal

To provide leadership in the ongoing development, coordination, and improvement of the instructional program across the school department.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of PreK–12 curriculum and instructional services.
  • Direct or coordinate special projects as assigned by the Superintendent or School Committee.
  • Oversee and support all State and Federal programs.
  • Stay informed of changes in State and Federal laws, regulations, and guidelines, and develop or revise policies to ensure compliance and effective implementation.
  • Monitor emerging trends and current research in curriculum and instruction, and guide decisions regarding their integration into district practice.
  • Provide leadership in the selection and adoption of textbooks and instructional resources.
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for staff development programs district wide.
  • Oversee the ongoing review and revision of curriculum and ensure the approved curriculum is effectively communicated to professional staff.
  • Coordinate district-wide assessment programs and analyze results to inform improvement efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison with families participating in home schooling.
  • Keep district staff, parents, and community members informed about RSU 39 initiatives and programs.
  • Attend meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Network with educational leaders at state, regional, and national levels to stay current on best practices.
  • Seek out grant opportunities to enhance programs, instructional resources, and professional development.
  • Support, assist, and oversee the development of district grant applications.
  • Serve as the district’s affirmative action / harassment officer.
  • Provide leadership for system-wide school improvement as outlined in the district’s strategic plan.
  • Select, supervise, and evaluate district teacher leaders.
  • Support and supervise gifted and talented staff.
  • Support and supervise multiple language learner staff.
  • Review applications and interview all substitute teacher applicants.
  • Serve as executive head of the school system during the Superintendent’s absence.
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of all activities and progress related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Serve as the district title IX coordinator.
  • Perform other duties related to education as assigned by the Superintendent.
Terms of Employment

Twelve‑month position (230 workdays), scheduled in coordination with the Superintendent. Salary and benefits to be established by the Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually.
