Medical Secretary – Specialist Surgical Care
Band 4 medical secretary, 37.5 hours per week, full‑time permanent post based at Cumberland Infirmary. Closing date 30 June 2026.
Responsibilities- Serve as the first point of contact for patients, adopting a professional, patient‑focused approach.
- Provide high‑standard administrative support to the clinical team, liaising with other departments, NHS Trusts and external agencies.
- Maintain efficient day‑to‑day delivery of services and manage a busy workload calmly and effectively.
- Communicate and interact effectively as part of a team, ensuring a positive patient experience.
- GCSE English language (minimum grade
C) or equivalent. - RSA 3 typewriting/word processing, NVQ3 business administration, or equivalent.
- Medical secretarial diploma or equivalent.
- Medical secretarial duties, medical audio typing, word processing, Microsoft Office, PAS, medical terminology.
- Understanding of the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, health and safety legislation and equality issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical ability to assess complex facts or situations.
- Initiative and independence, with ability to work without supervision.
- Organisation and prioritisation of workload to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures.
