Job Description

This post is a training vacancy and will incorporate the same rota and training opportunities as an HST. The successful candidate will play a major role in modernising the emergency care pathway following the introduction of national Clinical Quality Indicators and through an extensive programme of development in the Trust’s emergency flow improvement programme.

NCIC delivers outstanding hospital and health services to half a million people. Established 1st October 2019, the Trust is a centre of excellence in rural and remote healthcare and provides a wide range of community and acute services throughout north Cumbria and beyond.

  • Be involved in the initial reception and management of patients attending the ED.
  • Independently manage the department overnight, ensuring delivery of safe and effective patient care.
  • Manage the full spectrum of Emergency Department patients including resuscitation, assessment of seriously injured and ill patients, dealing with complex cases, paediatrics and minor injuries.
  • Assist consultants and senior nurses in running the shop floor, ensuring patients are seen by appropriate staff in a timely fashion and junior staff are appropriately supervised along with nursing staff and medical students.
  • Maintain the flow of patients through the department and support national Quality Indicators.
  • Undertake some administrative responsibilities, for example, reviewing x-ray and pathology results.
  • Develop special interest for clinical research and undertake audit projects or support junior medical staff audit projects.
  • Conduct observation ward rounds in the Emergency Department.
  • Actively attend, participate and contribute towards teaching sessions for your team as well as colleagues of varying levels.
  • Maintain and develop own skills and learning.
  • Maintain professional standards, GMC obligations.
  • Adhere to Trust Policies and Guidelines.
