Help Shape the Future of Nuclear Decommissioning

At Cavendish Nuclear, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Mechanical Engineer at either of our Westlake’s Science Park, Moor Row or Warrington, Cheshire sites.

Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll join our expanding Design Services Alliance Task Team, contributing to some of the UK’s most significant clean-energy and civil decommissioning programmes. This is an opportunity to work on technically diverse, highly regulated engineering projects that directly support the safe deconstruction and future proofing of nuclear facilities.

You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary engineering community, collaborating across design, safety, and project teams. Your work will help enhance plant performance, improve engineering standards, and develop innovative solutions that support essential national infrastructure—while accelerating your own technical and professional growth.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Driving effective collaboration across engineering and project delivery teams
  • Acting as a technical interface with customers, suppliers, and wider stakeholders
  • Conducting technical investigations and analysis to improve designs and resolve issues
  • Ensuring correct application of engineering codes, standards, and safety requirements
  • Supporting development of design specifications, models, and documentation.

This is a full‑time role working 37 hours per week based at either of our Westlake’s Science Park, Moor Row or Warrington, Cheshire sites with occasional travel to other project sites as required.

Essential experience
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and strong knowledge of general engineering drawing practice
  • Ability to build strong, influential relationships with key stakeholders
  • A proactive, delivery‑focused mindset with the confidence to challenge and improve existing approaches.
Qualifications
  • Engineering degree (or equivalent) in a relevant mechanical or engineering discipline.
  • Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance
  • Access to a Digital GP, annual health check, and nutritional consultations through Aviva Digi Care+
  • Employee share scheme
  • Employee shopping savings portal
  • Payment of Professional Fees
  • Reservists in the armed forces receive 10-days special paid leave
  • Holiday Trading is a benefit that allows UK Cavendish employees to buy additional leave or to sell up to one working week of annual leave from their annual entitlement. This Window opens February through to March annually.
  • ‘Be Kind Day’ enables employees to take one working day's paid leave a year (or equivalent hours) to undertake volunteering work with their chosen organisation or registered charity
  • Excellent development opportunities and benefits package including an employee assistance programme supporting physical, mental and financial wellbeing.

We’re Cavendish Nuclear — a team of c5,000 specialists and a core part of Babcock International Group.

Here, you’ll be part of something bigger. Across clean energy, defence, and civil decommissioning, your work will contribute to projects that are critical to energy security and national protection. Together, we’re shaping a future that lasts — not only through the impact we make, but through meaningful careers that respect your work-life balance.
