Job Summary
Clerk Typist, Band 2 – 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday) based at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. This position supports the Specialist Surgical Collaborative, providing patient‑focused administrative support to Consultants, Specialist Doctors and Nurse Practitioners across Cumbria.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a professional, patient‑focused approach.
- Provide high‑standard administration support to the clinical team.
- Liaise with other departments, patients, NHS Trusts and external agencies.
- Type professionally and efficiently, achieving 50–60 words per minute.
- GCSE (minimum C Grade) or equivalent, RSA Level 2 or NVQ Level 2 in Administration, or relevant typing experience.
- Competent and professional clerk typist with recent or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage a busy workload efficiently.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Able to use initiative appropriately.
- Able to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
- Capability to maintain high standards of work.
- Medical terminology knowledge.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Audio typing experience.
- Clerical or office‑based work experience.
- Flexible approach to working patterns.
- Willingness to undertake training and development.
