Apprenticeship – Arboriculturist - Level 4

Salary: From September 2026 - £8.00 per hour – Apprenticeship Wage - during first 12 months. (If 19 years old or over, after 12 months your salary will increase to minimum wage for your age)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Carlisle

Contract: Apprenticeship

Start Date: From September 2026 onwards

Apprenticeship Duration: Typically 30 months

Closing Date: 9th March

Interviews: Between 30th March – 20th April 2026

Kickstart your career as an Arboriculturist with Cumberland Council! Join a team that protects, manages, and champions our trees and woodlands. You’ll learn how to assess tree health, manage risks, and support decisions that shape our local environment. Expect hands-on experience supervising contractors, handling enquiries, and applying real-world tree law. You’ll work with the public, landowners, and infrastructure teams while building specialist skills in planning, surveying, and woodland management.

This apprenticeship is perfect for someone who loves the outdoors, wants real responsibility, and is ready to grow a career that makes a visible impact across the community.

• Assess tree health and safety across Cumberland
• Plan and deliver professional tree surveys
• Support decisions on tree work, planning and legal duties
• Work with contractors and check quality on-site
• Give advice to colleagues, landowners and the public

Eligibility Checks: Training providers will carry out eligibility checks. Some details from your application form (name, date of birth, address, email, phone number, and qualifications) may be shared with commissioned apprenticeship training providers for recruitment, training and management of the apprenticeship programme.
