About the role

As our Maintenance Assistant, you will:

  • Support planned and preventative maintenance programmes and report any remedial works required.
  • Undertake grounds maintenance activities and help coordinate volunteer support.
  • Assist with testing and record keeping for safety and compliance systems, with training provided where required.
  • Liaise with contractors, ensuring hospice safety and quality standards are maintained.
  • Support the maintenance and servicing of hospice vehicles and undertake driving duties when required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers across the organisation.
  • Provide occasional flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays when operationally required.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do:

Caring

We provide compassionate, person‑centred care that recognises the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and those important to them.

Respect

We treat everyone with dignity, kindness and sensitivity, valuing individual experiences, choices, cultures and beliefs.

Innovative

We embrace learning, research and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes and develop the future of hospice care.

Inclusive

We create an environment where diversity is celebrated, everyone belongs, and all voices are welcomed and valued.

About you

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has practical maintenance skills and experience in areas such as painting and decorating, plumbing, joinery or general building maintenance.
  • Has a good understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Can work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards and paying attention to detail.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is flexible, motivated and willing to learn new skills.
  • Holds a full driving licence and is able to drive hospice vehicles.

Qualifications or experience in electrical, plumbing or building trades, PAT testing, first aid, grounds maintenance, or working within a healthcare environment would be advantageous.
Please see the job description and person specification for the full requirements of the role.

  • A genuine opportunity to make a meaningful impact
  • Free on‑site parking
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme
  • And much more!

If you’re a practical, dependable and community-minded individual who enjoys a varied role and takes pride in a job well done, we’d love to hear from you.
