Position OverviewOur Crown Court Clerks are essential to ensure Crown Court hearings run smoothly. They have the self‑assurance to speak in court, communicate confidently with the Judge and all participants, and the skill to produce accurate and timely Court documents. Our training programme provides a structured yet flexible approach to building the required skills.
Responsibilities- Ensure Crown Court hearings run smoothly and efficiently.
- Speak publicly in court with confidence and liaise with the Judge, defence, prosecution, media and members of the public.
- Produce accurate, time‑critical court documentation, including court orders, verdicts and rehearsal records.
- Intervene in court proceedings when required and maximise judicial sitting time.
- Collaborate with the clerking team to maintain smooth daily operations of all Crown Courts.
- Able to speak publicly and within a court room environment.
- Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to complete documents accurately and to deadlines.
- IT proficiency with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software packages.
- High emotional resilience and sensitivity to complex, often difficult issues.
- Active listening and confident communication with a non‑judgemental approach.
- Team player with the ability to multitask and thrive under process‑driven conditions.
Hybrid working arrangements are offered where business need allows. The role requires a minimum of 60% of working time in an office; flexible patterns such as part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing are considered where they meet role and business needs.
Immigration and Visa EligibilitySkilled Worker visas are not eligible for this role unless the applicant held a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025. All successful candidates must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the UK.
