As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician based at our Carlisle laboratory, you will play a vital part in the day‑to‑day operation of a busy microbiology team. You will ensure samples are processed efficiently and accurately, working to tight turnaround times whilst upholding the highest standards of quality and health and safety.

Hours & Contract

40 hours per week, Full Time, Permanent contract.

Shift Patterns available:
Tuesday to Friday: 12:45–21:45 | Saturday: 11:30–20:30 | Sunday: 11:30–20:30 | Monday to Thursday: 12:45–21:45

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Carry out allocated testing precisely in line with documented methods and procedures, maintaining consistently high quality standards.
  • Complete daily QC checks and equipment calibrations to keep the laboratory running at its best.
  • Deliver testing within required turnaround times, ensuring results meet both method specifications and customer expectations.
  • Escalate issues or uncertainties that may impact testing to the Shift Supervisor promptly and without hesitation.
Essentials / Qualifications
  • A Level (or equivalent) in a science subject, or relevant hands‑on laboratory experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  • Confident IT skills, including experience with LIMS for data entry and recording.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines reliably in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Clear, effective communication skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented approach.
  • A working understanding of quality systems such as ISO
    9001 or ISO
    17025, and familiarity with COSHH.
