About this job

About the role:

As a Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will support the day‑to‑day work of the laboratory, assisting with testing, preparing samples and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

You will be trained and supported throughout the apprenticeship.

Key duties include:
Assisting with laboratory tests and experiments under supervision Preparing samples, materials and equipment for testing Accurately recording results and maintaining laboratory records Cleaning, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment Following health & safety procedures and quality standards Please note that this vacancy may close earlier than the stated deadline if a suitable candidate is found.

Working as part of a team to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy Apprenticeship details:
Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Combination of on‑the‑job training and off‑the‑job learning Full training and support provided No previous laboratory experience required

What we’re looking for:

An interest in science and laboratory work Good attention to detail and organisational skills Willingness to learn and follow instructions Basic IT skills GCSEs (or predicted grades), particularly Maths and Science, are desirable but not essential

Qualifications Required

GCSEs in Maths, English, and a science subject (or equivalent) at grade 4-9 or equivalent.

  • Ability to work unsupervised following a planned work schedule
  • Writing and numeracy skills
  • Familiarity with computers / keyboards / typing skills
  • Word, Excel, Access
  • statistics, graphs, data analysis
  • General awareness of importance of safety, and in particular safety issues of working in a laboratory.

Because of the technical experience you will gain from working in a laboratory, you will gain skills which many graduates have yet to develop.

If you have practical ability, ability to solve problems and good communication skills there are opportunities for progression towards higher qualifications.
