An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cumberland Council’s Housing Options and Homelessness Service as a Homeless Officer within the Carlisle locality.
This is an exciting time to join the service as we continue to develop and transform homelessness services across Cumberland, with a strong focus on prevention, partnership working and improving outcomes for residents.
We are looking for motivated, resilient and customer-focused individuals who are passionate about preventing homelessness and supporting vulnerable households.
Key Responsibilities- Providing housing advice and homelessness casework in line with homelessness legislation and statutory duties
- Managing homelessness applications and assessments
- Developing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans
- Supporting customers to access accommodation and sustain housing
- Working collaboratively with partner agencies including supported housing providers, health services and voluntary organisations
- Supporting households with complex needs and safeguarding concerns
- Contributing to the Council’s wider homelessness prevention and temporary accommodation priorities
- Experience of working within housing, homelessness, support services or a related field
- Strong communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage a busy and demanding caseload
- Compassionate and professional approach when working with vulnerable customers
- Knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing practice (desirable)
