An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cumberland Council’s Housing Options and Homelessness Service as a Homeless Officer within the Carlisle locality.

This is an exciting time to join the service as we continue to develop and transform homelessness services across Cumberland, with a strong focus on prevention, partnership working and improving outcomes for residents. We are looking for motivated, resilient and customer-focused individuals who are passionate about preventing homelessness and supporting vulnerable households. The successful candidates will manage a varied caseload across homelessness prevention, relief and statutory homelessness duties, working closely with partner agencies and internal services to secure positive outcomes for individuals and families facing housing difficulties.

• Providing housing advice and homelessness casework in line with homelessness legislation and statutory duties
• Managing homelessness applications and assessments
• Developing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans
• Supporting customers to access accommodation and sustain housing
• Working collaboratively with partner agencies including supported housing providers, health services and voluntary organisations
• Supporting households with complex needs and safeguarding concerns
• Contributing to the Council’s wider homelessness prevention and temporary accommodation priorities

• Have experience of working within housing, homelessness, support services or a related field
• Possess strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Be able to manage a busy and demanding caseload
• Demonstrate a compassionate and professional approach when working with vulnerable customers
• Have knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing practice (desirable)

This role requires a DBS check. The level of check for this role is:
Enhanced DBS check with a Children’s and Adults Barred List check.
