Associate Instructor, Bench Jeweler (On-Campus)
Location: Carlsbad, California;
Site: GIA corporate headquarters.
Job Overview: Deliver the Graduate Jeweler (GJ) program curriculum while fostering an engaging, supportive, and efficient learning atmosphere for students attending the on-site GJ course.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruct students in the On-Campus Graduate Jeweler Program, utilizing a variety of jewelry manufacturing and repair equipment, and audio‑visual aids.
- Impart appropriate and relevant course material consistent with GIA’s reputation, standards, and integrity.
- Address student concerns, complaints, or issues promptly; interface with Dean of Students, Manager of Education (Carlsbad), or other appropriate education staff for further action.
- Coach students regarding academic performance and methods for improvement.
- Maintain a culturally diverse classroom environment; foster sensitivity and respect.
- Proctor tests; receive, correct, and process student assignments and submit final student grades according to required schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
Technical
Competencies:
- In‑depth knowledge of jewelry manufacturing and repair techniques.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard or other learning systems).
- Effective presentation of course material; ability to communicate and provide feedback to students.
- Strong communication skills; professional and collegial.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Graduate Jeweler (GJ) or Graduate Jeweler Gemologist (GJG) diploma preferred.
- Minimum of three years related practical jewelry industry experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university and five years related practical jewelry industry experience preferred.
