This is a senior‑level opportunity for a licensed professional to lead geotechnical and engineering‑geology projects that support development, infrastructure, grading, coastal, and environmental clients across the region.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as Geologist‑of‑Record on geotechnical and engineering geology assignments.
- Oversee and conduct subsurface investigations (soil borings, test pits, rock/soil sampling, geologic mapping) for foundation design, grading, slope stability, and site development.
- Perform geologic hazard assessments (landslides, faulting, subsidence), seismic hazard and fault‑zone studies, hydrogeological investigations, seismic refraction/remote‑sensing surveys, and soil/rock rippability assessments when required.
- Provide geologic and geotechnical engineering reports, recommendations for foundations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures, and ground improvement or stabilization strategies.
- Provide construction observation and geologic oversight during grading, excavation, and foundation installation, including quality‑control testing and compliance monitoring (soil/rock mechanics, compaction, settlement evaluations, etc.).
- Coordinate with civil/structural engineers, project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders throughout project lifecycle.
- Active California Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) license – REQUIRED.
- B.S. or M.S. in Geology, Engineering Geology, or a closely related discipline.
- 7+ years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology.
- Demonstrated experience with subsurface investigations, soil/rock mechanics, foundation and earthwork design support, slope stability, seismic hazard analysis, and geologic hazard assessments.
- Strong technical writing, analysis, communication, and leadership skills.
- Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Expertise in hazard‑zone evaluations: landslide risk, fault rupture, liquefaction, subsidence, and seismic hazard assessments.
- Experience with coastal and waterfront geotechnical/coastal engineering projects (shoreline/bluff analysis, erosion control, pile/pier/waterfront structure support).
- Familiarity with field‑exploration methods, remote‑sensing, seismic refraction, hydrogeological studies, and on‑site laboratory testing for soils/rock materials.
- Experience preparing geologic hazard reports, consulting, or expert services for clients including private developers, municipalities, and public‑works projects.
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience and credentials.
- Incentive/performance bonuses.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Ongoing professional development and license‑maintenance support.
- Long‑term growth potential within a respected and established firm.
- Be part of a leading Southern California geotechnical-engineering firm with a reputation for excellence and over 50 years of operational history.
- Work on a wide variety of challenging, high‑impact projects ranging from grading and foundations to seismic hazard assessments, coastal engineering, and environmental/geologic investigations.
- Collaborate with seasoned geologists, engineers, and technical experts — and build a long‑term career in engineering geology and geotechnical consulting.
- Contribute to projects that shape safe, reliable infrastructure and community development in California.
