Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Mine Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform underground mining engineering activities including design, development, working with the survey engineering technicians to perform field surveying tasks as required (surface and underground), providing data reduction and drawing preparations. Train and qualify as a Cognizant Engineer on several engineering systems. Perform daily interface activities and assist with planning and execution of underground mining activities. Evaluate and select appropriate methods and procedures to produce economical and efficient applications.

Analyze and recommend incorporation of technological advancements in techniques, principles, theories, equipment, and utilization. Collaborate with project engineers and management to determine technical requirements and performance objectives of assigned projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering is required with two (2) years of mining, geotechnical or civil engineering experience.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Preferred Requirements
  • Working knowledge of mine surveying using laser and other electronic processes is desired.
  • Preference given to candidates experienced with using Carlson Mining Software.
  • Previous Nuclear Industry experience is a plus.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
  • Supervisor experience is a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 30-34. Minimum salary $80,609 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
