POSITION SUMMARY:

The Corrosion Technician is responsible for all facets of field executed corrosion prevention duties including cathodic protection, internal corrosion control, atmospheric corrosion control, protective coating and linings, materials selection and design/project support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and assesses corrosion control efforts for assigned midstream assets. Performs cathodic protection surveys. Takes scheduled readings of monitoring devices. Reports findings.
  • Initiates remedial measures as necessary.
  • Maintains and performs repairs and preventative maintenance on corrosion control equipment.
  • Performs pipeline corrosion defect assessments.
  • Inspects and tests, with guidance, coating applications.
  • Maintains complete, accurate and regulatory-compliant documentation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

SKILLS:

  • Corrosion Control Industry Standards:
    Developing knowledge of and practical experience with industry standards for corrosion prevention and control from American Petroleum Institute (API), NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) International, Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) and related organizations.
  • Corrosion Mechanisms:
    Developing working knowledge of corrosion mechanisms affecting midstream assets. Recognizes impact of operational environment e.g. electrochemical reaction with air, soil, water, high temperatures, chemicals, reinforced concrete, etc. Understands impact of natural gas contaminants such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, condensate, crude oil, trace metals.
  • Corrosion Mitigation:
    Developing working knowledge of techniques used to reduce corrosion effects such as, but not limited to, coatings and linings, anodic and cathodic protection, inhibitors, material selection and design improvement.
  • Corrosion Regulations:
    Developing knowledge of corrosion-related regulations governing midstream sector such as, but not limited to, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 49, OHSA standard # Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals.
  • Corrosion Technologies:
    Developing knowledge of and practical experience with intrusive and non-intrusive technologies such as probes and non-destructive testing used to detect signs of corrosion in midstream assets and measuring effectiveness of corrosion prevention methods.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Developing knowledge of and ability to perform asset-specific preventative and predictive maintenance to assure equipment operation at acceptable performance levels.
  • Safety:
    Developing ability to recognize safety risks in operational activities and use appropriate measures to control and manage identified risks.
  • Safety Awareness:
    Ability to recognize and identify potential hazards. Evaluates changes in work environment with respect to impact on safety of self and others. Understands potential threats created by deviation from safety procedures and improper use of tools and equipment. Uses personal protection equipment. Uses tools and equipment in compliance with manuals and training. Calls attention to potential and actual hazardous conditions as they arise.

    Demonstrates knowledge of lockout/tag out procedures. Stops work if there are unsafe working conditions.
