Lessons Learned and Event Investigation Programs Coordinator

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Lessons Learned and Event Investigation Programs Coordinator (Contractor Assurance Analyst/Specialist) and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Issues management – identifying, evaluating, and resolving undesirable outcomes and opportunities for improvement
  • Event investigation – initial evaluation of undesirable events to collect relevant information, identify the event trigger, ensure safety of personnel, and identify actions necessary to resume work
  • Causal analysis – application of specialized tools and techniques to determine underlying factors that led to an undesirable condition
  • Observations – real-time evaluation of work activities to ensure expectations are being met and provide feedback to workers
  • Assessments – formal review of programs, systems, and processes to ensure compliance and effectiveness in implementation
  • Performance measures – monitoring, analyzing, and responding to performance data
  • Requirements management – ensuring contractual requirements are properly implemented
  • Lessons learned – capturing, sharing, and learning from internal and external operating experience
  • Trending – analyzing data to recognize patterns of performance to identify degrading performance before it becomes a bigger problem
Skills

  • Interfacing with CAS Operations staff and line organization representatives

  • Providing feedback and coaching to users of CAS processes

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree, or
  • Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Relevant experience may include, but is not limited to, positions in Contractor or quality assurance;
    Commercial or government nuclear or radiological;
    High-hazard industry/facility (e.g., mining, power generation/transmission, oil/gas, chemical processing);
    Highly regulated or proceduralized (e.g., medical, environmental, food processing, legal);
    Customer service;
    Clerical;
    Education;
    Information Technology
Preferred Requirements
  • Nuclear or high-hazard facility experience
  • Experience with Contractor Assurance related programs/processes
  • Experience training, coaching, or mentoring
  • Familiarity with DOE Directives, Standards, and Guides
  • Familiarity with the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant
