Position: Broadband Technician I

Overview

The Broadband Technician I performs basic installations, disconnects, service changes for residential and business customers, basic troubleshooting, and assists with installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried and underground fiber optic and copper cable.

Responsibilities
  • Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocates and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters).
  • Perform basic installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services.
  • Assure proper signal levels and picture quality on all television sets and clean the premises of all debris and material after installation is complete.
  • Monitor and record system, drop, and in‑house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
  • Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customer on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available.
  • Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
  • Completion of a background check (if required by the customer).
  • Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
  • Maintain DOT requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW >10,000 lbs.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
  • Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Physical requirements:

    Ability to dig, lift and climb; lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Install test within the first 3 months of employment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The associate regularly sits, stands, writes, operates a computer keyboard, standard office equipment and telephone, and frequently moves about and reaches for items. The associate frequently stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls, balances or climbs, and frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. This position may require working outdoors, mechanical rooms, extreme weather conditions, or exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.
