Automation Technician
The Automation Technician performs high‑skill work in inspection, calibration, repair, testing, and maintenance of electronic equipment and automation systems. This position works closely with Automation specialists to ensure quality repairs, device installations, system integration, and component modification to full service capacity.
Duties & Responsibilities- Work safely at all times.
- Maintain accurate timekeeping in the HR management system and submit records on time per payroll deadlines.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot automation systems.
- Manage instrumentation calibrations, wireless instrumentation, and solar‑powered systems.
- Design, develop, and maintain technical and operations documentation for each facility.
- Assist the IT department in troubleshooting and maintaining internet connections and equipment for automation and other critical systems.
- Order, manage installation, and maintain inventory of automation devices including motor controllers, drives, and PLC equipment.
- Regularly attend the worksite and be available for callouts on evenings and weekends.
- Use the internal CMMS ticket system and coordinate third‑party work including materials, proposals, invoices, and schedules.
- Coordinate networking TCP/IP with the internal IT department.
- Interface with Operations, EHS, GIS, Accounting, Engineering, and other groups to meet user needs.
- Develop and maintain training tools for engineers, operators, and controllers.
- Assist with installations, commissioning, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of automation systems.
- Understand relationships between databases, programs, and GUI systems.
- Electrician skills capable of interpreting single line electrical drawings, P&IDs, and troubleshooting 480/220 V circuits using multimeters and meg‑ohm meters.
- Wide knowledge of most rotating equipment.
- Hydraulic and electrical skills.
- Camera equipment, systems, and analytics knowledge.
- Window‑based devices, scanners, and printers knowledge.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Good knowledge of MS Office, Word, and Excel.
- Problem‑solving capabilities.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Positive company representative internally and externally.
- Respectful and cooperative with fellow employees and customers.
- Automation Technician certification or apprenticeship, or equivalent years of education and production maintenance experience.
- Oilfield experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Up to 10% travel required to field locations with varying environments.
- Frequent positioning and transportation of up to 40 pounds.
- Stand, walk, move across large areas including uneven terrain, sometimes quickly; be stationary for long periods; work in confined spaces; ascend stairs or ladders; work atop tanks; traverse metal walkways at heights; balance with equipment; reach with hands and arms above the head and to ground level; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl into confined spaces; push and pull material; communicate verbally and in writing;
operate a motorized vehicle; move around in an office environment; work using repetitive motion. - Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

This position is required to be performed at the work site during regularly scheduled hours. Physical presence at the work site is required.
