Support Services Specialist

Academic Requirements

High School diploma or GED and Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or state awarded certificate meeting or exceeding CDA requirements, or an enrollment in a CDA credential program to be completed within 18 months of hire.

Work Experience

One year of related work experience.

Responsibilities
  • Protect the physical and mental health and safety of children; no child is left unsupervised.
  • Implement culturally and developmentally appropriate nutrition services, accommodating diets including special dietary needs and disabilities.
  • Ensure facilities, equipment and materials are kept clean and safe per federal policies and agency protocols.
  • Implement hygiene practices, including toileting, hand washing, diapering, safe food preparation and consistent handling of blood and body fluids per OSHA standards.
  • Maintain child safety during activities, report suspected or known child abuse and neglect, supervise children at all times, and adhere to conduct standards.
  • Support staff development, complete required training per state and federal standards, pursue professional development and staff wellness initiatives.
  • Respond to classroom requests for support promptly, complying with Office of Head Start and agency regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers to keep them informed of student behavior and progress.
  • Monitor classroom to ensure it is free from physical and environmental hazards.
  • Report all incidents within the prescribed time frames.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
  • Daily cleaning of facilities, classrooms, offices, bathrooms, common areas and playgrounds.
  • Maintain inventory control of cleaning supplies, ordering and receiving them.
  • Arrange seasonal deep cleaning and maintenance of building interior and exterior.
  • Implement hyper-sanitation protocols when directed.
  • Follow safety and health procedures per federal and agency policy.
  • Prepare and serve classroom meals; assist with family-style meal activities.
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils using approved sanitation methods.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure areas are free of safety hazards, trash, weeds, and foreign materials.
  • Inspect and keep outdoor areas safe between contracted services.
  • Notify supervisor of safety or health concerns.
  • Assist with moving, transporting furniture, fixtures, supplies and equipment.
  • Launder clothing and linens as requested.
  • Assist with classroom supervision as needed.
  • Assist with set‑up/tear‑down for classroom and center activities, training, meetings, recruitment fairs, and special events.
  • Assist with building, storage, machinery, and equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and competence to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally in English;
    Spanish preferred.
  • Maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
  • Knowledge of all INK policies and procedures.
  • Organize and prioritize duties in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pass health examination.
  • Confirm work eligibility status.
  • Pass driving history check.
  • Clear criminal background check.
  • Lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel, lift children, and actively engage with children.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and other hazards such as cigarette smoke and pets in neighborhoods.
Travel and Work Schedule
  • Travel up to 50% by car, bus, airplane or train for conferences, meetings and other duties; overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for events such as home visits, parent‑teacher conferences, community events and field trips.
