Job Summary

Pico Propane and Fuels in Carlsbad, NM is seeking a full-time Fuel Transport Driver to join our team! This driver is responsible for loading, transporting, and delivering refined fuels such as gasoline and diesel from refinery and supply terminals to bulk plants, retail locations, and commercial customers using a tractor and tanker trailer, in addition to assisting with hauling equipment on a flatbed trailer.

This position requires a Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Comply with all city, state, and federal regulations
  • Loads, secures, transports, delivers, and unloads refined fuel products
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on equipment used for the transportation of hazardous materials
  • Applies a thorough understanding of the technical concepts, practices, and procedures of industry standards and government regulations related to transporting bulk petroleum products to final delivery points
  • Plans and accomplishes operational assignments that are varied and moderately complex to complex
  • Gauges tank volumes and correctly identifies product types before and during delivery to prevent cross-contamination or mis-delivery
  • Transports bulk petroleum products from refinery and supply terminals to final delivery points using a class eight tractor and tanker trailer
  • Maintains the operational efficiency of vehicles by monitoring truck maintenance needs, conducting minor repairs, and conducting daily DOT truck inspections to ensure maximum vehicle safety
  • Maintains and completes accurate records by documenting truck inspections, hours of service, bills of lading, product transported, and miles driven
  • Ensures that the delivery vehicle receives service according to maintenance schedule; reports larger service needs and mechanical issues to supervisor
  • Assists with hauling equipment on a flatbed trailer
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently use navigation tools such as GPS, smartphone apps, and/or web-based or physical maps
  • Ability to maintain accurate logs and records
  • Ability to carry out a series of instructions with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Ability to obtain the NM LP-3 propane certification
  • Ability to obtain the NM Class 1 (transport delivery) certification
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements required

    Must meet all DOT requirements
  • Ability to obtain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • No more than 1 moving violation in the previous 2 years
  • 3+ years tractor and trailer experience in fuel distribution business
