Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion are seeking to appoint an inspiring and committed Junior Apprenticeship Lecturer (0.6) in Hospitality & Catering to join our Junior Apprenticeship team at Pibwrlwyd Campus.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality vocational teaching to learners aged 14–16 within a structured and supportive College environment. You will play a key role in shaping the future pathways of young learners, supporting their progression into apprenticeships, further education or employment.

About the Role

As Junior Apprenticeship Lecturer in Hospitality & Catering, you will deliver engaging, age-appropriate vocational teaching to small cohorts of learners, typically up to fifteen students.

This specialist 14–16 provision operates within a compulsory education framework. Learners remain on the roll of their home school and attend College as part of a statutory programme. As such, this role differs from standard post-16 FE delivery and carries enhanced responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and engagement.

The role combines high-quality teaching, rigorous assessment, strong partnership working and a commitment to learner progression and bilingual practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivering and assessing an Entry Level 3 / Level 1 Vocational qualification in Hospitality & Catering
  • Planning engaging, structured lessons that promote attendance and positive behaviour
  • Preparing high-quality teaching, learning and assessment materials
  • Tracking learner progress and contributing to quality assurance processes
  • Embedding employability skills and professional behaviours within teaching
  • Ensuring all practical activities meet health, safety and safeguarding standards
  • Communicating proactively with schools, parents and carers to support learner progress
  • Organising educational visits in line with College policy
  • Supporting progression planning into apprenticeships, further study or employment
  • Contributing to curriculum development, quality improvement and key performance indicators
  • Promoting bilingualism and visible Welsh language use within teaching and learning
Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking)
    - Level 3/4 Essential
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading)
    - Level 3/4 Essential

Essential Criteria
  • Relevant degree or equivalent Higher Education/Advanced qualification
  • Teaching qualification
  • GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
  • Experience of teaching 14-16 learners
  • Experience of vocational or work-based teaching and learning
  • Understanding of 14-16 provision
  • Experience of working with learners with behavioural or engagement needs
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus
  • Willingness to engage in Junior Apprenticeship training, Safeguarding and behaviour management training specific to 14-16 learners
Desirable Criteria
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Ability to travel across campuses
  • Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activitie
