We are currently recruiting Behaviour Support Assistants to join a specialist educational setting in Carmarthen, supporting pupils with a range of additional learning needs.

About the Pupils You'll Support

You will be supporting pupils within a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) who have:

  • Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD)
  • Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

Many pupils have experienced significant challenges, trauma and adverse childhood experiences, which can impact their emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement in education.

The school takes a trauma-informed approach, recognising that behaviour is communication. Staff work collaboratively to create a safe, supportive environment where young people can thrive, build trust and achieve success.

Your Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

A Typical Day May Include
  • Supporting pupils during lessons and learning activities
  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies
  • Supporting outdoor learning, sports and enrichment activities
  • Accompanying pupils on educational visits and off-site activities
  • Supporting community-based learning, including shopping, leisure activities and life-skills development
  • Encouraging independence, communication and social development
  • Working closely with teachers, support staff and external agencies
  • Recording observations and contributing to pupil progress and wellbeing plans

Essential Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS Check (or willingness to obtain one)
  • EWC Registration (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to build positive relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Reliable, committed and able to work effectively as part of a team
