You don t necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant to apply.

Experience working with children and young people in other settings can provide valuable transferable skills. This could include experience in:

• Schools
• Nurseries and childcare

• Residential or support work
• Mentoring
• Tutoring
• Volunteering
• Community‑based roles

As a Teaching Assistant, you ll help pupils get the most from their time in school by providing practical, educational and pastoral support.

Depending on the role, your responsibilities could include:

• Supporting the class teacher with lessons and activities
• Working with individual pupils or small groups
• Providing 1:1 classroom and learning support
• Helping pupils stay focused and engaged
• Encouraging positive behaviour and classroom routines
• Supporting pupils to develop confidence and independence
• Helping pupils with additional learning needs
• Providing pastoral and practical support
• Helping create a positive, inclusive and welcoming classroom environment

Every school and pupil is different, so your day‑to‑day responsibilities will depend on the placement.
