Senior Clinical Fellow in General Medicine/Gastroenterology
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of safe and effective medical care within General Medicine.
Core responsibilities include clinical assessment, accurate documentation, and timely completion of discharge summaries. The role also involves participation in teaching Resident Medical Staff and undergraduate students, as well as engagement in regular audit and quality improvement activity.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work under the supervision of the Consultant Physician and Hospital Director within General Medicine.
You will join a proactive and forward-thinking General Medicine team on a fixed-term contract. The role includes participation in the medical on-call rota and offers strong support for developing a specialist interest in Gastroenterology.
This post is well suited to doctors who:
- Are preparing to enter a specialty training programme and require additional experience
- Are working towards MRCP or CESR, with structured support available
- Prefer to work in a non‑training clinical role while continuing to develop specialist skills
Clinical duties include:
- Participation in Gastroenterology ward rounds
- Attendance at Gastroenterology outpatient clinics
- Development of procedural and diagnostic skills relevant to Gastroenterology
- Building a portfolio that reflects clinical and professional development
- Leading or contributing to quality improvement projects and clinical audits
- Supporting and delivering teaching sessions, including ECG workshops
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Evidence of working towards membership of the Royal College.
- Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice.
