Overview
Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals with a proven background of working in a Cellular Pathology environment, with the associated education and competency, to join this friendly, well-equipped Cellular Pathology department. You will manage a section of the department that provides a continuous and comprehensive cellular pathology service, as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment following departmental procedures.
You will perform and manage a wide range of complex analysis, applying specialist skills as an experienced state-registered biomedical scientist. The post holder will develop and undertake advanced preparatory and interpretive techniques as required within their area of responsibility, certifying and ensuring the validity of all investigations.
You will lead and manage the Main Laboratory within the Cellular Pathology Department, ensuring delivery of a high-quality and efficient diagnostic service. The post holder will work alongside the wider Cellular Pathology team to fulfil the daily operational requirements of this busy department. The successful post holder will section manage and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Main Laboratory section of the Cellular Pathology Department, ensuring delivery of a high-quality, efficient, and responsive service that meets clinical needs.
Responsibilities- Oversee the technical and scientific operations of the Cellular Pathology laboratory, ensuring compliance with national quality standards and accreditation requirements.
- Provide specialist advice to users of the service, evaluating new methodologies and developing, growing and optimising the service.
- Act as the technical and scientific expert in histological techniques, responsible for overseeing the validation, implementation, and maintenance of protocols, SOPs and technologies used in routine diagnostics.
- Provide professional, technical and managerial leadership to all staff in Histology; train, assess and ensure competence, monitor work practice in accordance with agreed standards set by UKAS Limited.
- Jointly manage staff absence and annual leave.
- Coordinate occasional work between sites, including the central laboratory and satellite teams.
- Appropriate MSc level education in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Extensive relevant experience in Histology with significant laboratory working experience.
- Demonstrated CPD in accordance with HCPC requirements.
- Up-to-date knowledge of developments in the discipline.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post;
English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. The Health Board offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help meet minimal desirable Welsh language requirements during employment.
