Power System Operations Engineer I
As our Power System Operations Engineer I, you will be part of MISO’s Real Time Operations group where the "rubber meets the road." Our operators and engineers work collaboratively to make complex and quick decisions. This team coordinates the use of the transmission system by ensuring flows stay within prescribed limits and partners with transmission operators and neighboring reliability coordinators to maintain reliability.
This position will be an Engineer in Reserve role where you will have the opportunity to train and hone your skills until you qualify and a shift position opens. You will also be responsible for learning how to maintain the accuracy and availability of one of the most important Energy Management Systems (EMS) in the Eastern Interconnection. You will train to monitor inputs from ICCP, SCADA, and the State Estimator.
Your training will teach you how to obtain accurate contingency analysis study results, and you will provide those results to assist in making MISO the most reliable, value-creating RTO. You will also participate in projects that lead the way for the operations of the future.
In one year you will know you are successful if you have developed familiarity with the MISO footprint, built foundational expertise in maintaining the EMS and its inputs, can carry discussions about operations processes, and have established relationships with operators and external/internal stakeholders.
Education and Core Requirements- At least a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following:
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical Engineering Technology
- Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology
- The ability and willingness to work a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule
- Experience in Utility, transmission operations, real‑time operations, or a related field
- Previous Energy Management System (EMS) experience
- Transient/Voltage stability experience
- Programming experience in C, C++, VBA, Perl, Python
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
Compensation and BenefitsThe base salary compensation range for this role is $76,000.00 – $ USD annually. Base salary range is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience. In addition to base salary, you will also receive a 7.5% shift differential.
This position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. A comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, is available on your first day of employment.
