Assists other departments with repair, development and research of engineering issues and ensures engineering documentation is issued in a timely manner for compliance to meet aircraft repair time frames.
Essential Duties- Serves as primary Engineering department contact for one or more specialized areas of engineering and assists other departments with commercial issues related to one or more engineering areas.
- Monitors fleet operational health and incorporates solutions to maintain fleet health levels.
- Creates, reviews, and approves shop visits and work scopes for repair and/or overhaul.
- Coordinates with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Engineering department for repairs and technical assistance.
- Provides engineering support for line and heavy maintenance, including minor repair authorizations, parts and materials substitutions, repairs, and reports.
- Conducts research and collects data to aid in the development of engineering documents.
- Reviews Airworthiness Directives (AD) and Service Bulletins (SB) for applicability, and develops engineering data to accomplish modifications in response to ADs, SBs, Service Information Letters, etc.
- Responds to requests for engineering assistance to obtain or develop approved engineering data when such data is not in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Structure Repair Manual, or other FAA approved documents.
- Interacts with applicable departments to define, maintain, and optimize the Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program.
- Analyzes and determines disposition of all reliability issues and improvements.
- Minimizes costs and aircraft out-of-service time relative to area of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.
Education & Experience- Associate's degree (A.A.) in Aviation/Aerospace Engineering or Maintenance or related technical field with an emphasis on Powerplant or APU theory or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 3 years Line or Heavy Aircraft Maintenance experience with demonstrated working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 121, 145, and 25 in an Engineering or Technical Service department.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant License.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Aviation Maintenance or Technology with an emphasis on Powerplant or APU.
- Training in Six Sigma or Lean processes.
- Experience with Life Cycle Management, technical work scope evaluation, and cost management of Powerplants.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning / Problem Solving AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Decision MakingMakes day-to-day decisions used to support strategic direction. Decisions require thought and may not be structured. Decisions tend to be short term and usually of moderate cost.
Physical Demands- Able to move about the work environment.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.
- Able to lift or move up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- May be required to work in open airplane hangars up to 10% of the time.
- May work in high, precarious places, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and encounters risk of electrical shock up to 35% of the time.
- Works near moving mechanical up to 70% of the time.
- Occasionally exposed to very loud noise (examples: plane engines).
- Able to work weekends, holidays, night shift, and overtime, as required.
Travel up to 25% of the time, including overnight stays.
