Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in a Level II trauma acute care setting requiring night shifts and advanced fetal monitoring certification.
Responsibilities- Work in the Family Birthing Center, including Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby Ante/Postpartum units
- Patient population includes term, preterm, high-risk, and antepartum cases
- Staff-to-patient ratios: 1:2 L&D, 1:1 delivery, 1:4 mother/baby couplets
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required and rotation for holiday coverage
- First to float; floating may occur to other Sacramento area facilities
- On-call response time is 30 minutes if placed on call
- EMR system used is Cerner
- Bedside report at shift start, self-scheduling available but finalized by the manager
- Responsibilities include all aspects of labor, delivery, and mother/baby care, including supporting both vaginal and C-section deliveries
- RNs circulate in the OR for C-sections, with one RN assigned to mother and one to baby
- High emphasis on breastfeeding support; facility holds 'baby friendly' designation
- Team includes charge nurses and nurse aides based on census and staffing needs
- 12-hour onsite orientation with 1-2 days of unit-specific training alongside a preceptor
- Sterile technique and Relias Dysrhythmia testing required; passing is mandatory to continue assignment
- Scrubs are facility-provided
- Hospitalist or intensivist coverage is available 24/7, as are pharmacy and respiratory therapy services
- Will not consider first-time travelers for this position
- Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced Fetal Monitoring (documentation needed at time of consideration); STABLE preferred
- Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisory reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
- Submission of a copy of driver's license required
- Experience with 'catching the baby' highly preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred
- Candidates must not have been employed by facilities associated with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year
