Management Accountant - 12-Month Maternity Cover (Exclusiveto Butler Rose)

Location: Carnforth
Contract: Fixed Term Contract - 12 months (Maternity Cover)
Working Pattern: Office based with an early finish on a Friday (potential for 1 day hybrid)
Reporting To: Head of Finance

I am partnering exclusively with a highly respected SME to support their search for a Management Accountant on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is a varied, hands‑on role within a supportive finance function, ideal for someone who enjoys responsibility, autonomy, and partnering across the business.

The successful candidate will play a key part in preparing, developing, and analysing financial information to support effective decision-making, while maintaining strong controls and ensuring accuracy across reporting processes.

• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow
• Complete month‑end tasks including bank reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments
• Oversee and reconcile stock as part of month‑end and year‑end close
• Maintain and validate the standard costing system
• Provide insightful commentary on variances to budget and forecast
• Support Group month‑end and year‑end processes
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and support review cycles
• Maintain and improve internal financial controls and processes
• Assist with external audits and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
• Process quarterly VAT returns
• Partner with non‑finance stakeholders to support commercial decision‑making
• Liaise with external stakeholders such as auditors, banks, HMRC, and suppliers
• Deliver ad‑hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by senior management

• Part-qualified accountant, AAT qualified or QBE considered
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations
• Proficient in accounting software and Excel
• Able to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities
• Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
• Confident working independently as well as part of a team

• Experience with in a manufacturing environment is desirable
• Previous experience in a Management Accountant role within an SME
