Senior Project Manager – Underground Utilities (Chicagoland, IL)
Job SummaryA medium‑sized General Contractor focused on civils, infrastructure, and utilities seeks a Project Manager to oversee underground utility projects across Chicagoland. The role includes managing projects ranging from sewer and water to other underground infrastructure.

We are a 45‑year‑old family business that provides construction services for both public and private sectors, with a primary focus on underground utility, infrastructure, and site development. Starting in the Midwest, we are expanding nationwide with a growing portfolio of repeat clients.
Responsibilities- Oversee and manage all aspects of underground utility projects, including sewer, water, and other infrastructure.
- Develop and execute project plans, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management strategies.
- Lead a team of project professionals and contractors, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
- Manage project resources, including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Ensure all project activities comply with company and industry safety standards.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure quality control and adherence to project specifications.
- Resolve any issues or challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and present project status reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve project management processes and techniques.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in the construction industry, focusing on underground utilities and sewer projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience managing large‑scale, complex underground utility projects.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, motivating and inspiring a team.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Exceptional problem‑solving skills, thinking strategically under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building relationships with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Highly organized and detail‑oriented, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Professional certification in project management (PMP) preferred.
