Are you an experienced engineer who loves rolling up your sleeves, leading teams, and driving innovation in a fast-paced, small-team environment? At Innovative-IDM, we’re looking for a player-coach to help lead our Carol Stream branch—someone who thrives on variety, ownership, and impact.

As our Engineering Manager
, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, guiding engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams while also diving into technical projects yourself. This is a strategic role with real hands-on responsibility—perfect for someone who enjoys blending leadership with technical execution.

Player (Hands-On Engineering – ~50%)

• Design, program, and commission industrial automation systems (PLC, HMI, VFD, motion control, robotics, etc.)
• Collaborate with customers to define project scope and deliver high-quality solutions
• Perform quality inspections and drive continuous improvement in production
• Document and implement engineering changes to improve accuracy and efficiency

Coach (Leadership & Support – ~50%)

• Lead and develop a team of technicians, and field service pros
• Manage production schedules, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure on-time delivery
• Provide technical support for field service and customer escalations
• Support sales with technical expertise, quoting, and feasibility reviews

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• 5+ years of engineering experience, ideally in industrial automation or manufacturing
• Strong knowledge of electrical control systems and design tools (Solid Works, AutoCAD Electrical)
• Proven leadership skills and a collaborative mindset
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities with calm, methodical problem-solving

Bonus Points For:

• Experience in controls engineering and field service
• Familiarity with motion control, robotics, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking
• A passion for mentoring and developing technical talent
