Location: Carol Stream, IL (DuPage County)
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Pay Range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually, plus travel bonuses
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
About the RoleOur client, a leading machine manufacturer serving the plastics industry, is seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer – Service to join their growing team. This individual will design, develop, and implement electrical control systems for automated machinery while providing troubleshooting support both remotely and on‑site. This position requires a hands‑on approach to machine automation, programming, and service, along with collaboration across multiple engineering teams.
The role includes up to 50% travel for customer installations, modifications, and service support.
- Design and develop electrical schematics, documentation, and bills of materials based on project and customer specifications.
- Select and integrate sensors, pneumatic control components, and automation products based on company standards and customer needs.
- Troubleshoot control systems over the phone and on‑site with customers.
- Travel to customer sites for system installation, modifications, and aftermarket support (up to 50% overnight travel).
- Develop, modify, and debug PLC, HMI, and motion control programs.
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering teams to integrate electrical and mechanical components.
- Train and mentor entry‑level Service Technicians.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with Allen‑Bradley PLCs, HMI development, and AutoCAD.
- Strong background in machine automation, electrical schematic design, and motion control systems.
- Proficient in AutoCAD for electrical design (Solid Works Electrical experience a plus).
- Knowledge of commercial automation products such as photo sensors, pneumatics, and vision systems.
- Proven experience with multi‑axis coordinated motion control and machine timing concepts.
- Strong electro‑mechanical skills with a hands‑on approach to troubleshooting.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to work both independently and in a team.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Comfortable with a mix of office and field work (approximately 50/50).
