Driver, Per Diem

Overview

• Transport residents to and from scheduled and emergency appointments and provide transportation for campus activities and group trips as schedule allows; transportation may be for days, evenings, or weekends.
• Operate the assigned vehicles under various road and weather conditions in a safe and efficient manner.
• Prioritize safety and comfort of residents in vehicle operation.
• Communicate with the receptionist to determine time and place for initial pickup of each rider.
• Aid in safe transfer to and from the vehicle when conditions warrant special assistance.
• Use mobile telephone safely to receive pickup reports and plan driving routes (Bluetooth or speakerphone).
• Communicate problems or issues related to transportation, including incidents and changes in resident condition.
• Check lights, gauges, switches, and perform safety checks; clean mirrors, windows, and lights to ensure unobstructed vision.
• Handle various errands for office staff involving transportation.

• High school education or equivalent.
• Six months of related driving experience with knowledge of local and surrounding roads.
• Valid CDL driver’s license in the state with an excellent driving record.
• If driving a campus bus, a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License in good standing.
• Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures; ability to react calmly in emergencies and to consider residents’ comfort, safety, security and belongings.
• Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written in English.
• Genuine compassion for elderly and disabled and ability to interact with residents in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Knowledge of lifting techniques, first aid, etc.

Pay range: $16.06 - $19.27 per hour
