Make a real impact where it matters most

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Specialty Doctor to join our dynamic and supportive team on Oak Ward
, a 12‑bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) providing highly specialist, intensive inpatient care for adults experiencing the most acutely disturbed phase of their mental illness.

Oak Ward provides intensive, multidisciplinary care to male adults requiring a high level of support, therapeutic engagement and clinical oversight. Patients are often detained under the Mental Health Act and require a safe, structured and specialist environment to stabilise. Length of stay typically does not exceed 6 weeks, with service users progressing onto acute wards or community care once improved.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

  • Provide high‑quality clinical assessments, reviews, formulation and risk management
  • Participate in daily MDT meetings and ward rounds
  • Support Mental Health Act processes, capacity assessments and tribunal report writing
  • Deliver safe and effective medication management including Clozapine and Lithium protocols
  • Maintain clear, timely and comprehensive clinical documentation
  • Liaise closely with primary care, crisis teams and acute services
  • Contribute to teaching, service development, clinical governance and audits

Detailed job description and main responsibilities What We’re Looking For
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Minimum 4 years post‑graduate training, including at least 2 years in psychiatry (or equivalent competencies)
  • Strong communication skills and MDT working ability
  • Clinical competence in assessment, risk management and care planning
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Section 12 / AC approval
  • Experience across wider psychiatric services
  • Experience in research, audit or service evaluation
