The Burial & Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 provides Scottish Ministers with powers to regulate the funeral sector, including the appointment of Inspectors. Inspectors are responsible for monitoring compliance across burial and cremation authorities and funeral directors, ensuring adherence to standards such as the Funeral Director Code of Practice and supporting public confidence in the sector.
Scottish Ministers are seeking to appoint up to three Inspectors to strengthen the regulatory framework for the funeral sector under the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016. The role involves conducting inspections, assessing compliance and promoting best practice among burial authorities, cremation authorities and funeral directors. The Scottish Parliament is also considering the introduction of Alkaline Hydrolysis, which would also require inspection of the relevant authority.
Successful candidates will contribute to maintaining high standards, improving sector credibility, and ensuring quality services for the public.
