Essential Job FunctionsThe Judiciary Clerk in Carroll County District Court performs case processing duties and responsibilities daily which entails a high volume of data entry work for civil, criminal and traffic related cases. Provides information in person or by telephone to the public, attorneys and court-related agencies about status of cases or court procedures in a professional manner. Performs all functions necessary for duties, to include but not limited to, receive, review and process cases/pleadings, and task work to the appropriate person or queue for processing.
Greet and assist citizens at the information counter. Assist citizens with their pleadings, accept, review, and enter filings into Odyssey. Print invoices for payments, review and accept motions, postponements, new filings etc. Process garnishments. Serve as a backup to the DV clerk to process Peace Orders, Protective Orders, Emergency Evaluations, Emergency Risk Protective Orders. Other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
NoteA Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge OfA Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
General office practice, procedures, and equipment.
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Skill InCustomer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability ToUse standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, database software, copier, microfilm machine, cash register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
Use and maintain alphabetical and numerical filing systems.
Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.
Provide information in a polite and efficient manner.
Exercise judgment in applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, or regulation to a situation.
Physical RequirementsSedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
