Job SummarySupplemental Instruction Leaders are viewed as academic student leaders, model students, and are significant contributors to the University of West Georgia community. SI Leaders provide motivation for learning and act as role models to their fellow peers. This is not a Teaching Assistant or tutoring position and does not include teaching duties. SI Leaders are supervised by and report to the Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction in the Center for Academic Success.
Responsibilities- Attend the class that they are the SI leader for.
- Conduct 2–3 supplemental instruction sessions per week to engage and enhance learning concepts.
- Conduct an office hour.
- Conduct planning sessions for their sessions.
- Attend two trainings per month.
- Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours.
- Overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, or be faculty referred for the specific SI course/subject.
- Must have earned a grade of A in the course.
- Must successfully complete a background check.
- SI Leaders for Spring 2026 must be available to attend a full two‑day in‑person training before the semester begins.
- SI Leaders are required to attend the class that they are the SI leader for; the class schedule must align with the student’s course schedule.
- SI Leaders are selected on the basis of faculty recommendation, academic skill, leadership, character, and the ability to communicate well with others. SI Leaders are expected to have a positive perspective of the University of West Georgia.
- List of course(s) that the student would like to SI for.
- SI Leaders are expected to have adequate knowledge of the subject they are hired to facilitate and the ability to communicate that knowledge to their peers.
