The Resident Assistant (RA) position at the University of West Georgia is a live‑in, undergraduate or graduate student leadership role who serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life Staff and reports to the graduate Resident Director or designee. The RA is responsible for the overall development of a community on a designated floor or area. The RA will assess and meet the needs of residents living in their area through daily interactions and implementation of our learning goals and outcomes.
The RA is responsible for facilitating learning, building positive community among residents, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment, and serving as a departmental and university representative and role model.
- Engage with residents regularly to build community and support their transition to university life.
- Facilitate community‑building activities and events aligned with department goals, promoting academic, social, and personal growth.
- Plan and execute social, educational, and cultural events, encouraging participation in campus‑wide activities.
- Educate residents on safety, diversity, inclusivity, and equity, fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
- Assist in conflict resolution and address community issues, ensuring a harmonious living environment.
- Support the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and encourage involvement in Hall Councils and leadership opportunities.
- Provide resources on academic success, wellness, and community engagement, and connect residents with relevant university services.
- Maintain confidentiality of all staff and students (FERPA). While complying with the University’s duty to report as required by Title IX and Clery Act.
- RAs are expected to familiarize themselves with and comply with all policies and expectations outlined in the UWG Student Code of Conduct, Housing Contract, and department standards and procedures.
- Understand that being a role model extends beyond the Residence Halls; RAs are expected to represent the university positively in all settings, including the classroom, campus events, and off‑campus activities.
- Promote respect, inclusivity, and integrity by modeling appropriate behavior in all interactions with residents, peers, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain professionalism in communication, decision‑making, and problem‑solving, while ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity to residents’ needs.
- Serve on call on average, a weekly duty night (5 pm to 8 am) and a duty weekend (5 pm Friday to 8 am on Monday) to respond.
