Job Purpose
The purpose and function of the Quality Engineer is to provide quality support to the organization to meet or exceed customers’ expectations. The Quality Engineer is responsible for analyzing product and process data, addressing negative trends or improvement opportunities using various quality tools (Corrective Action, 5 Why, etc.). The QE will schedule and facilitate cross‑functional meetings using PDCA concepts to develop and execute countermeasures.
The QE–Instrumentation will focus specifically on OTDRs and associated equipment for calibration, testing and test development.
BS in Engineering Discipline or 5 years equivalent work experience.
ExperienceThe Quality Engineer reports directly to the QA/QC Manager or designee. The QE selects and facilitates projects or assigned tasks until completion, using data from Power BI dashboards, proprietary software, etc., to determine development projects, provide inputs, and gauge performance. The QE also facilitates problem‑solving teams for root‑cause analysis, countermeasure determination, and validation of corrective actions. The Quality Engineer represents the department or manager in engagements requiring input or presentation.
AdditionalQualifications (Preferred)
BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering disciplines or 5 years related work experience; LEAN Manufacturing certification (green belt);
Project Management experience.
- Proficient with MS Office: create and maintain Excel files and reports, PowerPoint presentations, and update standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Manage personnel or resources used in projects facilitated or participated by the QE.
- Conduct deep dives into process/project failures and report findings.
- Analyze hold tag data and facilitate or participate in meetings to reduce high‑frequency failures.
- Assist or facilitate teams engaged in Continuous Improvement activities.
- Support QMS systems and audits as directed by the Quality Manager.
- Develop, implement, test, and validate optical test equipment, including OTDRs, EOTDRs, qualification lab mechanical equipment, MTS, Enstron tools.
- Provide MTS software training to develop relevant algorithms and run programs for MQT requests.
- Maintain and calibrate optical and mechanical metrology equipment.
- Assist in developing new techniques and processes for advancing optical testing technology, including hardware engineering, software development, and instrumentation.
- Develop new testing practices for advanced optical fiber technologies such as Hollow Core Fiber and Multi‑Core Fiber and other fiber type designs.
- Troubleshoot and debug test systems and automation solutions from software and hardware perspectives.
- Support additional quality activities as assigned by the Quality Manager.
- Measurement equipment: microscope, calipers, gauges, etc.
- Pin gauge proficiency.
- Microsoft Office applications (especially Word and Excel).
- Data analysis applications such as Minitab.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
