    Compensation: $130,000-$160,000

    Overview

    The Project Estimator Manager leads the estimating department for mechanical construction projects—including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems. This role is responsible for producing accurate, detailed cost estimates, mentoring and developing the estimating team, and driving consistency, competitiveness, and profitability in bid strategies. Working closely with company leadership, project managers, and business development teams, the Estimator Manager ensures estimating efforts align with organizational goals and operational capacity.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train a team of estimators; provide ongoing performance feedback.

    • Workflow Management: Oversee bid schedules, workload distribution, and resource allocation to ensure efficiency.

    • Estimate Oversight: Review and approve cost estimates for accuracy, scope completeness, and profitability.

    • Process Development: Establish and maintain standardized estimating procedures, templates, and cost databases.

    • Technical Analysis: Interpret drawings, specifications, and project documents to prepare detailed takeoffs and cost breakdowns.

    • Vendor Coordination: Manage subcontractor and vendor solicitations; review proposals for scope and pricing alignment.

    • Bid Strategy: Participate in bid reviews and presentations with executive leadership and project management teams.

    • Preconstruction Support: Contribute to value engineering, constructability reviews, and alternative cost solutions.

    • Performance Tracking: Monitor bid-hit ratios, estimating accuracy, and team performance metrics.

    • Continuous Improvement: Conduct post-project reviews to refine estimating practices and identify opportunities.

    • Market Awareness: Stay current on labor productivity, material costs, and construction methods.

    • Collaboration: Partner with operations and procurement teams to ensure smooth project transitions.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping) and construction estimating principles.

    • Strong ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and design documents.

    • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (Trimble, McCormick, FastPIPE, Bluebeam).

    • Expertise in budget development, cost databases, and bid-tracking tools.

    • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop teams in fast-paced environments.

    • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.

    • Excellent communication skills for internal collaboration and client-facing presentations.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.

    • High integrity, professionalism, and commitment to quality.

    Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    • 6–10 years of mechanical estimating experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.

    • Demonstrated success in estimating HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects across commercial and industrial sectors.

    • Experience in mechanical contracting or general contracting environments.
