Job Summary

The University of West Georgia (UWG) is seeking a self‑motivated leader in the fields of counseling and health administration. This position serves as the administrative leadership for Counseling and Health Services and functions as the chief mental health officer. It requires high‑level skills in consultation with faculty, staff, advocates, psychiatrists, nurses, the campus physician, and other constituents. The role ensures effective operations, proactively assesses, and implements appropriate processes, addressing all facets of clinic management.

The position increases student success and campus safety. Major responsibilities include strategic vision and leadership, serving as a key member of the CARE Team, and supervising a staff of counselors, psychiatrists, interns, and clerical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Supervision: Provide vision and strategic leadership for the Counseling Center and Health Services. Supervise up to twenty full‑time professionals, including counselors and health services professionals. Supervise administrative staff and direct reports such as Assistant Directors, Business Operations Specialist, IT Specialist, and Patient Advocate(s). Oversight of the Counseling Center Internship Program and support the intern’s clinical supervisors. Serve as a member of the leadership team of the Division of Student Affairs.

    Advise other department heads and leadership regarding current mental and physical health issues.
  • Budget: Manage the Counseling budget of approximately $1.2 million. Support the budget responsibilities for Health Services, including preparing a 5‑year business plan. Work with budget managers on the financial operations of Health, including business plans, grants, and revenue.
  • Goal Setting/Vision: Work with the Health and Counseling Leadership Team on goal setting, action planning, and belonging initiatives, including data collection, reports, and database updates. Serve as a key member of the CARE Team, advising on mental health and wellness concerns. Consult with counseling staff, faculty, and staff regarding student safety and mental health.
  • Administrative & Other Duties: Perform safety assessments with student clients and referred students to determine risk to self or others. Take appropriate actions to secure student safety. Make presentations to educate the campus community. Provide assessments and recommendations for students returning from hospitalization for mental health reasons. Any other duties as assigned by the AVP for Student Affairs, or the President.
Required Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree
  • Required Experience: Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare management, or a related field to Counseling or College Health. 5+ years of counseling experience and medical office experience required; 3+ years of clinical supervision experience required; minimum of five (5) years management experience; current knowledge of procedures, techniques, equipment, technical advances and regulatory agencies and standards within the field of student health;

    strong written and oral communication skills; experience working with diverse audiences.
