All about General Merchandise:
Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store
• Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
• Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests and assisting with daily tasks.
• Engage with guests to help solve their needs and provide solutions.
• Thank guests and acknowledge their choice to shop at Target.
• Perform daily tasks assigned by leadership to achieve goals aligned with business priorities, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
• If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.
• Execute processes such as changing prices, merchandise set-up and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed.
• Learn how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
• Be knowledgeable about resources, products, and services available in the total store and in your area to solve issues for guests and improve their experience.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
• Work in a safe manner at all times; comply with safety policies, report hazards and correct where possible.
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking/packing orders or delivering pickup orders) while maintaining compliance with applicable laws.
• All other duties based on business needs.

• You are open to a flexible schedule with varying hours or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and peak times).

Training is provided to help you learn what you need to be a General Merchandise Expert. From the start, there are a few skills expected:

• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
• Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
• Attention to detail and following multi-step processes
• Remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders when required
• Scan, handle and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds without assistance
• Flexible work schedule, with reliable attendance
• Capable of working in varying temperatures and conditions (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout)
• Ability to stay mobile during shift (shift length may vary)
